I hear 2000 and '99 is the same. From the little searching I did, I was getting about 50/50 response on if they were interchangeable or not.

Transmissions from '96-'00 should be externally compatible (they do have differences in the valve body). The '01-'02 transmissions are missing the throttle pressure/kick-down cable.

Thanks for the info. Was also asking because someone was parting out a 2000 4Runner (He bought it for the 3.4 to put into a pickup) and the Auto transmission in it was a OEM rebuilt (From Toyota) and it only had about 400 miles on it. I don't need it, but I could get it for about couple hundred... Can't pass it up just in case. I hear 2000 and '99 is the same. Is yours making noise? Its not a fun job but one weekend is a good trade off for years and years of more driving!

It's not making noise yet but I have 270k and I know it's going to have to happen sooner than later.

Thanks, I will. When I had to go back to work it was still in the truck. He plans on pulling engine, tranny out as one and then separate. Hope it's done by now.

Hey! Yeah I come here and still browse but I am caught up in my Nova build right now. Got kinda burnt out on building two 4runners back to back and needed a change. Still drive mine everyday and it needs some things and I have things for it I just want to get my Nova a little further along. I got that muscle car itch

Minor updates:

Got a jerry can for the rear.. found out from an earlier purchase that it had to be a NATO can.

Changed oil for the first time... I figured I didnt want the dealership driving my runner anymore now that I am getting more done to it. I did like having the oil changes on dealer record but oh well.. Switched to synthetic.

Fancy rear brake bulbs... impulse purchase..

Finally got to use my new soldering aid.. Soldered my temp sensor for field monitor.

Do you know what the part number for the female plug is for the temp sensor? I have my temp sensor, but I'm struggling finding the female side.

If you have a base or SR5 model (not a Limited), the stock outside temp sensor plug works with minor modifications. It should be clipped on the cross member in front of the radiator.

The wires are already run into the cab even, and aren't used under the dash for any other purpose (on a non-Limited).

It's been a long time since I have had an update on doing anything to my 4runner. I have been so caught up in building my Nova and getting it to a place where I can enjoy it. Now that the Nova is up and running and can be a second car it gives me a little piece of mind for working on the 4runner when I know I dont have to drive it right away. It gives me time to actually do stuff without rushing.

Here is where the Nova sits now.

So with the Nova mobile and able to drive me around with the 4runner apart I decided it was time to remove my pile of crap ToyTec Boss front coilovers. These things have leaked for the longest time and have rode stiff and harsh right out of the gate and they only have like 20k on them now (99.5% road driving).
I went with the King extended travel coilovers cause I dont want to have to do this again. Its also a good to know these can be rebuilt unlike the Boss Coilovers where you have to buy a new shock. I went with the 700 pound coils and then used a set of SPC adjustable upper control arms. I ended up doing the "G" setting on the control arms while rotating the lower control arm bolts for max caster as pointed out in the SPC thread. Camber on upper ball joints is maxed out and my home alignment turned out really good. I will still take it in soon for an official alignment but for now it rides and drives great with no issues whatsoever.

A couple thoughts:
1. 700 pound coils - When purchasing the Kings I wasn't sure what spring rate to get. I had read 600, 650 and 700. Most people were saying 650. After figuring the weight of the stuff I already have mounted on my 4runner I decided to go 700 and was a little scared. But... they ride great. They handle speed bumps, pot holes.. all road conditions very comfortably and I have zero regrets.
2. Ride height - with the BOSS coilovers I had to crank them up some to lift the front end up so I was assuming I would have to do the same with the Kings but I wanted to get them on and see where they sat out of the box. After installing them I see zero need to adjust the height from how the factory set them up. I am super happy with this also as I feel it maximizes ride quality as intended.

My only complaint now.....

Is that I want them for the rear as well so I can fix that crappy Boss shock ride!!

Got home Sunday and decided instead of playing video games and wasting the day I would plasti-dip my flares! Finally!!

Pretty stinking happy with the results. I did buy protectant to put on them too so hopefully they hold up.

While I was waiting for it all to setup and cure for a few hours before parking it out in the sun I used some Chemical guys leather cleaner on the interior

Then in this picture the whole passenger seat was cleaned and the drivers was still dirty.
