Chipping clear coat!

I noticed a month or so ago that my passenger side clear coat started chipping. No idea how it came about, but needless to say I've owned my 4Runner for around 2 years and didn't expect this to happen so I've been down about it. Took it to a macco near my house and was quoted 1k! Which seems like way too much. So I am hoping some one else has some good advice for this!

Sometimes you gotta take a hit like that. But look around some people will re do clear coat. Or give it a good buff it may come out

Don't be scared about that price for a paint job for an entire vehicle, just be scared about that company doing the paint job. Although it does suck and $1000 seems like a lot, I can tell you, you will just be worse off after spending $1000 and needing to repaint your vehicle in a year. Maaco is horrible for painting and they don't even prep the vehicle which is why they get away with such cheap paint jobs. Coming from someone who ran a body shop and did repairs on new/used vehicles as well as dealer trade ins and had to do paint correction all the time on this crap, I will say save your money until you can do it properly.

2200 for the whole truck! I would prob take that with a 5 year guarantee

I've heard some bad and some good about macco which is why I went there first, unfortunately this will be a costly repair to get done. And being a broke college kid I prob won't get it done for awhile :/

Well the other option is plastidip to prevent it from spreading and more exposure to the elements?

I considered that, but I'm not sure how the paint would hold up when peeling the dip off

Others had success fixing clearcoat problem by wet sanding the clear and respray.

when the clear coat peels and if you are gonna try to fix it yourself just make sure to get the edges of the peeling clear feather edged out w like a 1000 grit paper. The hard part about that is not sanding through the silver basecoat, and then seeing the primer or metal.

I would estimate just doing one fender would be roughly $400-600 because you have a pinstripe to replace and a wheel flare to take off. Another issue is color matching the top edge of the fender to the hood, and top edge of the fender to the A pillar and door paint.
