Chirping noise

This is on an 07 4WD V8....has anyone ever noticed a strange squeal/chirp during moderate to hard acceleration when the transmission changes gears? It ONLY happens then and outside the truck its fairly noticable (though you can hear it in a more muffled way inside). If you accelerate modestly, the chirp does not happen. Its high-pitched and only happens for an instant.

I thought it might be belt chirp but I tried the unthinkable by letting it get totally cold and running it a block without the belt to test this out. It still did the same thing so its definitely not the belt. Again, this only happens during upshifts of the transmission under moderate to hard acceleration...

The open brain surgery sounds good :rocker:

It's the massive POWAH of the mighty V8 breaking the tires free every shift! The poor tires just can't cope with the strain!

:)

me 2 just noticed this today. u guys hearing it? normal op?

I have a high pitched whirring noise under similar conditions. let me clarify:

-agressive throttle (WOT or near WOT)
-1st to 2nd gear shift it makes the noise like a high pitched "whirrrr"
-it's not loud enough to be heard over music or wind noise with windows down so must have windows closed and no music at all
-under normal driving conditions, no noise

Possibly be the vvti malfunctioning, but I very very very highly doubt it, my 03 V8 doesn't do it and I don't have vvti. Just a thought.

It's probably the transmission clutches doing the shift between 1-2. I had it in an oldsmobile aurora with the v8 after a while. Then the tranny blew up... doh! But it was for a different reason... (no need to panic) How many miles on your vehicles? I assume it's just the bands getting slightly worn.

Mine's an 07 with 90k miles. All fluids swapped with new within the past 10k miles. Timing belt done recently.

Noise is subtle enough but noticeable when driving in quiet mode. Only hear it on the 1 to 2 shift and not all the time but often enough with aggressive throttle input.

If it is a normal noise I'm fine with it. I am pretty sensitive to this stuff. If not well then not sure even what to ask to do to address it as I know the 2uzfe with this transmission is pretty robust. Thx!

I was about to start a new thread and decided the search function was there for a reason.

Unfortuantely I can't find a definitive answer to this question.
I'm experiencing all the symptoms listed above.

07 V8, AWD, 114k

WOT
1-2 shift
slight squeal/ squeak for a brief moment
I thought it might be an old belt, but the OP said he removed his and it still did it, so I have no idea.

Any suggestions?

Do a search for ping or pinging. Mine makes the same noise and I think it is a minor ping. Whatever it is, others have had the issue and it apparently hasn't caused any problems.

Did anyone find any new info on this? I just noticed yesterday that I am experiencing this too. I actually noticed it upon hard acceleration down shifting from 2 to 1 . I thought it was pinging and filled up the tank with 92 octane. Checked this morning and was able to hear better under better conditions and it's definitely not pinging. It's exactly as previously described, a shirt screech/squeal right at or near the downshift under hard throttle.

Churp

My 07 VVT-i 4.7 has always done this. I bought it with around 95k now has 108k. It had correct oil change records from dealer & since owning it I've ran Mobil1 full syn 5w30.
I've changed trans fluid, timing belt and all related components including water pump with all OEM parts. Also new drive belt too and it has made no difference in this chirp.
It don't sound like the normal spark knock but it could be since VVT-i adjusts timing so maybe adjusting a bit out of range idk? Hammering down hard with windows down it is more noticeable air on/off making no difference.
I mentioned on time oil changes since VVT-i setup relies on oil flow so internal build up surely affects it imo. Myself I have not tried another oil brand or weight yet?
Now' it will be awhile as I just changed my oil but I may try that next round, if it goes away I'll note it here, anyone else tried it that has the chirping?
Thanks all!!
