Chrome door handles

Does anyone know if chrome door handles are available for 2004's as an after market accessory? Also, how about exterior chrome gas cap? (not a chrome one that is covered by the gas door). Thanks for any help!

This is my first post on any forum ever. So, sorry if anything gets messed up. I just bought my '03 4runner Black Limited about two weeks ago, so I am really excited to start participating here.

I found Chrome Door Handle Covers on Burtman and another site selling Putco products:
http://www.burtmanindustries.com/zoomprod.php?id=4run_dor_cvrs_03_up

http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/subpages/putco_doorhandlekits.htm

Update: HERE is another site selling the Putco handles.

I think the Burtman are $99.99 and the Putco are like $67. Sorry I am not attaching any pictures. I don't know how or even know about the right I have to post other peoples pics.

Edit: AutoAnything has the Putco for $67 with free shipping, but it said "2 Door Set - Outer Ring and Center Section".

Does anyone have these installed? Any pics, anywhere? I think they would look great, but have some concerns about it looking like a cheap plastic add-on. I love the look of other black SUV's that come stock with chrome door handles and would love to be able to add this to mine if it looks sharp.

Thanks.
-Jason

Well, it seems like no-one has had experience with these door-handle covers. So, I will refine the question. The handles are applied with 3M tape. Has anyone used the 3M tape for other accessories? Is it relatively easy to remove and will it hurt the paint if removed?

Has anyone used any other Putco Chrome Trim Accessories? Are they considered a quality product?

I am now going to try to attach the picture from Burtman's Site. Is it typically ok to post pictures from someone's website or should I have got his permission first?

Thanks for any help. -Jason

You're Welcome. If you break down and buy them before I do, please post your reaction and pictures also. I think I am going to get my Tal & Hadas Bull and rear bar first. I think the chrome bars will look great with those door handles. Hopefully someone else will post their experience with these and we won't have to be the first.......however, after seeing our pictures, I bet we won't be the last.

I just purchased the more expensive ones that are shown in the picture above. I will let you all know how I like them and post pictures. He has to import them so it will be a while before I get them.

I am not sure exactly what spurred me to purchase the more expensive version. I guess part of my decision was based on looking at the Putco website and some of the photos didn't look as good as I hoped. Plus, I think I have read a few threads that said they were very happy ordering from Jason Burtman. I emailed him several questions and he says he is barely selling them above cost at this price and told me that it is a different company that he gets them from.

Oh, he is submitting an order really soon and if you want to get these sooner, rather than later, and at this price, you should order really soon. Might be marketing propaganda, but it worked on me.

I guess we'll see when I get them. Maybe someone will get the less expensive set and we can compare and contrast.

Kewl, when you get them be sure to post pics. They're not my kind of upgrade, but if you're happy then thats all that matters.

I found a pic of a members 4runner that has these chrome door handles:

I sent him (The Bronze) a pm with this text:
Hey, I was wondering about your chrome door handles. Did you get them from Burtman? Do you like them? How much? I contributed on a thread on the same topic. I just ordered mine yesterday and finally refound the picture of yours today. Here is the link to the thread. Any feedback would be great. I am going to copy this Private Message and the picture of your 4runner, as well as a link to your website selling your 4runner in that thread. Thanks.

Hopefully, we will hear from him, as he is selling his 4runner on the thread linked below. Maybe he has some closer up pics.

Luxury,

First time you posted I thought they looked stupid but from those pics, they look great!
It seems like a perfect Limited Edition-type of touch. Little slashes of chrome on the body.. cool. Looks good on that black SE, ties in with the roof rack.

good luck with it when you install- hopefully the fit is perfect!

Who...huh...what?

Man, those things are beautiful, at least on the black 4Runner. I have a gold-colored 2001, and would love handles lack that, but am not sure how they'd look..what do y'all think?

Those silver handles came standard on SE early to mid '03 model year. When they went to the mono color, all the accents including handles went to mono color.

My black '03 SE has them in addition to the silver luggage rack, grill inserts and back gate accent.

I like them, very unique and not many on the road.

Thanks for that information! It is amazing the depth of detail you can learn from this website. Is it one solid chrome handle or does it seem to be an added accent over the handle? I am assuming by your description that it was a complete silver handle.

I guess that probably explains why I stubbled across another 2003 Sport Edition that had the same handles and liftgate trim. It was on momo.75 vehicle. Here is a picture of his found on the T4R.ORG sticker thread:

Hopefully, mine will look close to as good as the OEM.

My rig looks just like momo's. I have the dual Borla, whereas he has another exhaust setup..and Momo wheels.

The handles are more of a silver than pure chrome. The entire handle assembly is the same color, so it is not just an insert.

Had I known about the early model SE handles, I might have opted for those. I bet the silver matches better with the silver paint on my racks and running boards. However, I would have probably ended up spending more time and money on them. Plus, I think the chrome will play off the chrome Tal & Hadas I am planning. For others (since I am debadging), the chrome handle covers might work well with the chrome lettering all over our rides.

Well, I still haven't received mine yet, but I'm hoping it will be in the next week or so. I did find a foreign site that has some great pics of their chrome handles:

http://www.shuei.co.jp/

Can anybody translate what it says about these handles?

Good: Well, I received my long awaited chrome door handle covers. First let me say they look awesome. I love them and highly recommend the look. They are killer, exactly what I was hoping for.

Bad: However, three of the four back pieces are not sticking well at all. 2 not at all. It is like the 3M tape isn't even touching the door. I think I am going to try to remedy this by adding another piece of 3M tape, that I hope to purchase tonight. For some odd reason, the piece with the key hole fit better than the piece without.

Good: For some reason, maybe a mistake, I got an extra door handle in the kit! I am particularly excited about this, just in case one falls off in transit or gets scratched.

Bad: The pieces don't wrap around the handle like I had hoped. Thus, they are less secure and I can feel a slight lip on the edge of them.

Good: I don't notice them looking at all out of place, eventhough I don't have any other chrome on my ride except for the main Toyota symbols.

Good: In a way this is a subtile difference that I don't think many people will even notice, but from an overall perspective, it makes my 4runner look more like a luxury SUV, to match the leather and NAV.

Good: The packaging of the box said these handles are for the RX330 or GX470. Just FYI in case you want to broaden your search for them. I'll post pics of the box when I take them.

Good: I think Jason B has more of these in stock now so you won't have to wait the many months I did.

I'll try to post some pictures up tonight. Now, I have to eagerly anticipate the arrival of my JDM Tail light Trim.
