Chrome or Colored Grill? Which do you like better?

I was debating whether or not to have my chrome grill painted black like the rest of my 4runner. I don't think there is an aftermarket grill that can replace it, but I'm sure it could painted.

I believe the "limited" model comes with colored grills, where the sport and SR5's come with chrome.

Which do you guys like better?

I'm a chrome fan, but I seem to be one of the few of them.

personally i like a little bling on the surf/4runner so i'd say stick with the crome. in japan all surfs come with a metallic grey grille, the chorme one is an option.

I swapped my smoked chrome grill out for a color coated limited grill. Much better IMO.

Don't waste money on getting it painted , just order a limited grill , they come color matched already. 10 min. to bolt on and your done.

Thanks for the info.....where did you order your grill from a Toyota dealer? How much did it cost? Easy to install on your own?

I prefer the colour keyed of the limited. On my 08 SE, I left it chrome though.

At one point I wanted to swap out my smoked chrome grill but stopped. I looked at my 4runner's color scheme more carefully and IMHO the smoke chrome grill and smoked chrome headlamp bezels look awesome and compliment my SHADOW MICA paint quite well. It adds a subtle contrast yet retains the darker look. Any other lighter color of the paint and the smoke chrome would not look right. But that's just me. Maybe if and when my grill gets banged up enough I will reconsider it.

I was ready to change out the smoked chrome grill until I started looking at all the limited on the road. For the titanium colored limited, the color matched front looks kind of bland and non-distinct. FWIW, the chome does not chip like the painted grill.

A little bling gives the 4Runner some character. BTW, chrome might be coming back in style. Look at the new front end of Lexus GS, and of course the Tundra.

Yeah i have an all Black '08 Sport model and I cannot decide. If anyone has pics of their color-keyed grill I would love to see them....especially a black one.

I will probably have to go find some at a dealer to see which looks the best.

Yes I got it from the Toyota dealer. It was like 200.00 , install time , 10 minutes and easy , take your time not to scratch anything.

No offense to anyone , I just like the monotone stealth look .

I like the 'lil bling that the smoked chrome grill has on my 4Runner Sport. I wouldn't swap it out for a color-keyed piece even if it was free to do so. I like bling on my grill :biggrin2:

Chrome gives it more of an upscale look.

I had parked mine next to a dark blue Limited once, and asked some friends which one they thought was the 'top of the line' - they selected mine (SR5).

Also the truck looks strange in darker colors with the dark grilles - looks really plain.

I agree that the chrome grill looks good and adds a nice touch, but I'm not crazy about the chrome door handles, unfortunately the wife likes them so they will be that way for some time...
