Chrome... What to do??

I like the look of my 4Runner as it sits today but I don't love it... I'm thinking about taking off the nerf bars I think it makes it look like it sits lower. Also after spidertrax this summer what else should I do to make it better?? Or is it possible to get all the chrome powder coated??

I really like it. Chrome generally doesn't work on a 4Runner but it looks pretty good. I think you're on the right track with the Spidertrax. You're far enough into the chrome theme that blackout/monochrome is out and that's ok. Possible exception: the headlights.

The thing about removing the nerf bars is all it does is make it hard to get in and out. Most of the time if "no-nerfs" allowed you to clear something the gas tank would be dragging. They also hide the low hanging gas tank. (The gas tank install just bugs the heck out of me, can you tell?) IMHO, If you take the nerfs off then the Westin may not look right too...

I don't know what I would do but I'm not 'feeling-the-love for the taillight guards'. While the nerfs aren't sliders they look pretty good IMHO.

I know you put on Sport rims which are nice but maybe some black/silver rim combo would fix it up.

I'd pcoat the chrome pieces, nerf bars and get black/dark wheels. It would look great with your tint.

I had the same look as you a couple months ago and was happy, but wasn't thrilled. I'll tell you the Bull bar on the front looks nice, but taking it off really brings back the taller look. I also had the SS steps and sanded those down and painted them black...big difference.

I don't mind chrome, especially with our color 4runner, but black looks great.

I'd say you're pretty commited to the chrome look already and its going to take a lot of time and $$ to change it all to black. I think it looks damn fine as is. If anything I'd say swap with someone for a silver roof rack.

looks good man.
personally i would take off the nerf bars, side steps, and tail light guards.
overall looks god though.
just my 2 cents...

Like above comments...it looks very nice...very clean like it is....but if you want a change just do it....
Now..... keep in mind that if yo black out all the chrome you more than likely will have to do the same with the Rims to complete the make over. Like in my case..I already got fj wheels and painted them black ...jus t waiting to get the money for the rubbers I want to complete the look. I might paint the door handles as well.

thanks for all the comments... I think I might just take off all the chrome and list them on craigslist see if I can sell them, then buy new stuff... sliders & wheel spacers with that money....??? worth a shot I guess if not I might try to PC them or paint... Its not that I don't like the chrome but I want it to look more tough and chrome isn't really a tough looking accessory lol who knows I guess you always want what you don't have!
:thanks:

does anyone know where I can get a grill to match the silver paint like the Limited to replace the chrome? or can it be painted at a shop over the chrome??

Here is what it mine was looking like.

I stripped the chrome off and painted the steps black about a month ago.

Here's what I used.

And it's funny you should ask about a color keyed grill because I just bought an extra chrome one off of ebay ($49, killer cheap). I've stripped the chrome off that and cut out the center. I got some black PC'd diamond mesh for the center last week(As well as an FJ40 "Toyota" emblem for the center) and I need to do some fiber glass work and bondo next, but i plan on matching the body color.
