City lights in High Beams

I was thinking about devising a strategy to put what are called "City Lights" in my high beam housing. These are small low power light bulbs that would be installed into the side of the housing and light up when the low beams are on. They would look good because they illuminate the HB housing just enough to see next to the LB's at night. This would be a very easy install just drill a small hole into the HB housing and seal. Then wire into the parking light circuit.

Many applications of this already exist. Many Lexus cars have these from the factory as well as Jaguars and Mercedes Benz's.

Just a thought....Let's hear what everyone thinks...

I guess you could call them parking lights, although I consider parking lights to be amber in color. These could be white, blue, etc.

Yeah, they're definitely useless, but I think it looks good...

I don't like the blue bulbs here, but white or off white would look good...

The parking light on the GX is much smaller than that. I just replace my parking light on my GX with PIAA white LEDs. The white light do look better than the yellow one that comes from the factory.

I know what you are talking about. The RX330/RX400h has them and I thought it was an optical illusion at first until I looked at the light closer. I guess the best way to explain it would be a marker light in the high beam part of the headlight case. I think they would look great on a 4Runner! Aren't there laws (certain states) prohibiting blue or bluish lights on the front of your vehicle (or anywhere) unless you are in law enforcement?

I got some guff from a CHP for having not blue lights, bluish lenses on my aux lights (on my previous car)...

Large city cops don't have time to deal with tiny vehicel code matters, but small town cops nad cops crusing for an excuse to stop, cite, and toss your car will have an excuse......expeiclaly if you are just a tad young, hanging around the known locals, or jes don't look right.....

Son, blue lights are illegal in the state under Vehicle Code Section XXXXXXX. Now, let's see your driver's license...youre regisraiton and insurance.....I smell alcohol on your breath/pot in car, son. Why don't you step out and let's have a look. We're going to pat you donw for any weapons, son so don't move.....(oldest trick in the book--the cop has a straight pin hidden in his hand.) NOw don't move son, I'm just patting your down. He jabs you and you flinch and pull away.....Whoa son, battery on a peace officer, resisting, obstructing, and delaying a peace officer.....that is if you even get the chance to argue before his buddy lets you have it with his PR 24 side handle baton in the ribs/kidney area.....

Its illegal to have red or blue lights of any kind on the front of your vehicle. It resembles emergency vehicle lights.
