'Clacking' sound from front left wheel (2nd Gen)

Hi all,

I am experiencing a 'clacking' noise from the front left hand wheel area, it happens anytime the wheels are in motion, constantly about every second. I briefly took a peek under, without pulling off the tire and I noticed my CV boot is almost ripped off, but I didn't see anything else that could be the culprit.

I am planning on pulling off the wheel later tonight, but I am curious as to what your ideas may be?

Also, a small non related issue, my last oil change I used Lucas Oil stabilizer because my truck burns oil like crazy (topping up 2 liters a month) but now my oil level gauge is no longer giving me a read, is there a sensor or something i can clean off/replace to fix this?

Jack the wheel off the ground and spin it. See if you replicate the noise.

... sounds like a worn cv to me. replace the cv.. only 60 bucks at autozone with a lifetime warranty.
when you replace the cv knock out the bolts holding the cv to the differential with a punch and a hammer. it makes the installation SOOOOOO much easier!

In the case of repairing in replacing cv boots, if the one side is starting to go out, than the other side is going to start giving out as well.

A bad CV joint usually makes the most noise when the steering wheel is turned hard, but if it's real bad it could be noisy all the time.
But it could also be other things, like a brake problem.
Just check everything closely when you get into it.
