CLANK when Reversing from front wheels

Does anyone notice a clank sound when reversing at about 5 mph and then pressing the brakes? It happens on both sides and only occurs on the 1st brake after starting in reverse.

I was guessing it is the brake pads re-seating in the calipers as the force is no longer on the front of be calipers, but only on the back.

- Stealership told me that I need new calipers, pads and brake lines... WTF? :ybrick: They said that even if I were in warranty its considered a wear-tear part? I feel like I'm being taken to the cleaners.

I have noticed this since the day I took delivery on my 4runner from the dealership; it just recently became a little louder. I'm hoping its harmless.

I've had a similar noise in the same situation on other cars since new, and was told it was normal. I've not noticed it yet on the 4R but probably wouldn't worry about it... I doubt you really need all those parts replaced, and I wouldn't guarantee it fixes the noise either.

I have also noticed that noise on mine since the day I bought it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I remember hearing we have self-adjusting brakes or something like that....and the noise was related to that??

It normal, just the pads shifting in the caliper. Every car does this, the only difference is volume. Does have a tendancy of getting louder as the pads wear down.

Ok thats good to know. Thank God I'm not going to have to pay for any work!

It's normal when you are under warranty - when you're not its a case for a new brake system
