Class 4 tow hitch not avail?

I purchased an 08 SR5 4x4 about 2 weeks ago and as part of the deal I had them agree to install a class 4 hitch.
Took it today and when I got it back I saw that it has a class 3 Curt 13445 hitch.
The dealer did not do the install. They sourced out to a local off road shop.
I called the shop to see how the install went, and to ask if there was anything special I needed to know. Ex. Did anything had to be altered? etc.
and to ask about the class mix up.
The guy told me 3 is the highest the sell for the 4 runner. Class 3 goes to 5500lbs. Tow cap for the 4runner is 5000 and I don't plan on exceeding it so I guess all is well.
My question is Is a class 4 available? Does anyone have one? What about the V8s that have a cap of 7xxxlbs? Shouldn't they require a class 4?
Just trying to find out if I got lied to.

Ummm. I believe the towing capacity of the V8 is 7000 for 4x4 and 7300. If you REALLY want to tow up to that, you should get a hitch rated at it. If that was a condition of the sale, make sure it gets done to your terms.

Edit: Nevermind. I saw 08 and my heard saw v8. I have a v8 and I have a class 4 hitch set to run the 7000 pound limit.

From the factory the V6 is rated for 5000lbs 2WD or 4WD. The V6 has a weight carrying hitch as it only attaches to rear most cross member. The V8 is 7000lbs for 4WD and 7200lbs for the 2WD. The V8 has a weight distributing hitch and is attached to the rear cross member and frame rails.

IIRC, some have posted the owner's manual says if the hitch is changed on the V6, it can go to 6500. The Tacoma is rated to tow 6500lbs from the factory, but it has an oil cooler as part of the package.

I bought a Reese hitch over the curtis to get the 6000lb tow and 400lb tongue weight. That being said the Reese says it is capable of 7200 if used with load leveling. I'm pretty sure the V8 falls under the same catagory in that to get the max weight you need some extra stuff (load leveling is a PITA)

What I notice between the Reese and the Curtis is the Reese has two extra mounts that attach to the cross beam between the frame rails (some call it a bumper beam but it's fully welded to the frame)
