Have not found much info on clay bars.. but how do they work really? Is it safe to use on cars? I have overspray of rustoluem clear coat or some other clear coat spray around my emblems... not to noticible but makes me grumpy. Will a clay bar remove this? Read somewhere it did.. any other household products that will get this off? its juts over spray around the emblems and it adds a dull rectangle area around the letters.

clay bar works well, shouldnt hurt anything. you just spray a clay bar cleaner and wipe. amazing to see all the little bits of debris that are still there even after a good wash. you must clay bar is you are going to wax the car right, otherwise you may be waxing in debris and causing microscratches on your clear coat.
steps:

1. wash /2. dry /3. claybar /4. wax /5. polish

A clay bar takes off imperfections left behind by dirt. You apply it after a wash, but before a wax, it just smoothes out the paint by removing bits of grime left behind by a wash. Think of it as a pencil eraser, but what is left on your vehicle is more of an ink, if you put it in that perspective.

You'll need something that can strip the clear coat, but not damage the paint.

polish before wax. Wax is always last.

Why would you wax the car and then polish the wax right off? LOL

Clar bar wont remove overspray. You want glazing compound. I've fixed a ton of scratches with 2000 grit wet sand paper and 1200 glazing compound. I've also used 3000 and 2000 compound to fix/shine things.

That being said clay bar is a good cleaning tool before wax.

I used a clay bar 3-4 weeks ago to get off a good bit of overspray. Worked pretty well.

It's was excellent on my windows and worked pretty well on the paint.

Meguiar's Ultimate Polish also worked very well at taking the overspray off the paint.

I also used some clay a few days ago to remove paint specks from my windshield and side mirrors -- I used Windex as lube because I wasn't sure about spraying Quick Detailer on glass --- anyway, worked awesome.
