Cleaned my throttle body/MAF.

I followed J.A.'s instructions on how to clean a throttle body and MAF sensor Toyota 4Runner Highlander Throttle Body cleaning and O Gasket Mod . It took me about 3 hours. The MAFS looked like it was spray painted flat black, and the TB took forever to get clean. I used a little carb cleaner along with the throttle body cleaner because it was that bad.

When I first started it up, there was a sound coming from the TB. No codes were thrown...but some tools were. After I drove around the block, the sound almost completely went away, and the idle is at 1,000 RPM's. It felt a lot more responsive and even sounded better at WOT.

Has anyone noticed this sound coming from the TB after it is taken apart? Is it the EFI resetting itself since I took the relay out?

Went through and sprayed cleaner around the TB to see if there were any air leaks. The idle went weird when I sprayed around the air intake boot, so I tightened up the clamp and it was fine. I then get in my car and notice the check engine light is on.

It's running better than before, the idle is where it should be, and it's shifting fine. Any ideas to what the code is? Should I just pull the EFI fuse or disconnect the battery to clear the code? Need some advice :/

Yeah i would just reset the code. The engine needs to adjust to having a clean MAF.

I had a shop pull the code. Came up as the engine is running too lean.

I'm assuming this means I have an air leak that is past the MAF sensor?

Could it be something else?

Check all those vacuum lines you took off to pull the TB...running lean in my experience is usually a vacuum leak. Unmetered air they call it. After a while those hoses can get brittle...hope you find it!

Sure enough, it was a hose, and one that was pulled from the TB unknowingly. I think it was the PCV hose (1/2 inch diameter one on the bottom?). Runs great now.
