cleaning maf in a '99-in process as we speak

quick question as i got everything pulled apart right now and am doing, plugs,wires,maf cleaning,tb cleaning and throttle cable adjustment

my question is when cleaning the maf shown in this write up

he states
Clean wires (W) and spray into the large hole as well

my question is do you also spray it down the long tube back towards the connector ?

is looks very dirty back in the depths of the MAF closest to where the connector clips on....


GOOD IDEA or BAD IDEA?

i would of course do this from a vertical position so it doesn't pool at the back of the MAF...

it def. looks as if the air gets channeled deep into this parts of the unit but am unsure if i'm going to cost myself 150 bucks by going over board with the cleaning

just hanging out getting ready to put everything back together and quick help would be great

if you're using electrical contact cleaner or Maf cleaner, spray the shiit out of it.

Let it airdry afterwards, maybe wipe the plastic a bit but leave the wires alone.

sweet another quick question if i got the dieelectric grease on top of my spark plugs they should be fine right?not on the electrode but on the end that has the boot, i got a bunch of the grease in one by accident, i don't think thats a big deal as it's the same stuff you use on your battery terminals and your body for ultra sounds...right?....RIGHT?!?!?!

i should also say i've never used the dieelecttric grease before, never have taken this good of care of anything i owned, 'cept maybe the wife, lol

and the write up shows just putting on the outter flange as opposed to inside the boot.

i thought the purpose of the grease was to keep from frying contacts and corrosion inside the boot.....

Yes you want to spray inside that tube. And yes it is ok to get dielectric on the spark plug ends that the wire connects to. Since I have a 99 you may want to check my write up and pics as well.

Put some dielectric grease on the underside of the coil pack's boot covers
"After installing the plug, clean the bottom of coil pack boot with your Simple Green'd cloth and then put a bead of dielectric grease on the rubber boot surface."

confusing as i always thought it went inside the boot

Yes you want to spray inside that tube. And yes it is ok to get dielectric on the spark plug ends that the wire connects to. Since I have a 99 you may want to check my write up and pics as well.

Glad JA cleared that up, I have some dielectric grease and I've only used it on my CB antenna mount so i didnt know lol.
