I haven't done this on my 4Runner, but I have done it on my 87 Supra. It has the same style screen in the reservoir. I did the exact same thing with pulling it off, and spraying it with brake cleaner from the outlet side to "backflush" all the gunk in there out. I went through about 2.5 cans of brake cleaner when I did mine, but I made mine spotless. It doesn't look like the guy in the video did... I also added a magnefine filter at the same time to make sure that the screen stays clean from there on out. Maybe I need to look into doing this to my 4Runner as well.
