Cleaning the roof, with roof rack installed...

Hey everyone,

For everybody who has a roof rack of any sort, how do you clean your roof? I realize I could just spray the hose on the roof. But I was wondering if any of you scrub the roof at all with anything when washing your vehicle.

Any suggestions?

Not sure how gobi or baja owners would do it but the Prinsu is awesome for this. Just 4 bolts per rail and the whole thing basically comes apart for cleaning. I did mine last night and it was kind of a pain, but way better than removing the rack.

I have the Baja utility. And I have lights and wiring, so hoping to not have to remove it.

I was thinking of maybe a swifter, with a soapy rag on the end

I have been pondering this exact thing. I am somewhat anal about keeping my roof and gutters clean, and have wondered if I could mentally handle having a "dirty" roof under a full rack or basket. Glad to see I'm not alone though. I wonder if a slim car wash wand would fit under them?

Yes that's exactly what I was thinking.
But instead of buying that, just using my wash rag with soap on it, and wrapping it on my swiffer stick

I have no idea how much or little room is under each rack, but would a microfiber paint roller fit under the rack? If so, using an extension handle should be able to have the same effect as a sponge.

I knew this was going to be a problem so I wrapped my roof so that I wouldn't have to worry about cleaning it

I use this and just wrap the end with a wash mitt

I was using a Swiffer with a micro-fiber cloth wrapped around it. I just found some wet Swiffer pads I am going to try next time.

Yesterday, I snagged my basic Swiffer, put my wash cloth around it, and it worked like a charm.

I agree. Grab a Swiffer, Microfiber Towel, Zip Ties then you're golden for washing and then I do the same for drying. Works like a charm.:banana::banana::banana:

I guess my only hesitation will be when I need to do that yearly waxing it might be a little difficult but nothing patience can't solve with a little redneck ingenuity.

I recently bought a foam cannon for my pressure washer. Basically you give it a pre rinse with the pressure washer, then slap on the foam cannon and coat her in nice foamy suds. Let it sit a couple minutes and rinse it off.

I use the Chemical Guys foam cannon too and the Honeydew soap. It does a great job just when it's really dirty sometimes I need to get in there and knock that dirt loose via the Swiffer method.

I know how that goes. I work in the oil field and mine gets pretty nasty sometimes. If I get any drilling fluid on it, a sponge or brush of some sort is absolutely necessary. Gotta love the foam cannon though!
