Clear coat bubbling/peeling

The clear coat on my rear hatch has been bubbling and peeling off for months and it's just spreading and I'd like to stop it and, if possible, repair it. Anyone know how?

The only way that would come out perfect would be to give it to a body shop. Once the clear peels you can't do anything about it. I've heard of some using rattle can clear as a cheap fix but if you're like me, the thought of spraying a $5 can of paint from an auto store onto your truck's bodywork is kinda scary.

I would wax over it and leave it alone until you can properly get it done.

Not much you can do except repaint the hatch. It's not recommended to try to "fix" and reclearcoat. But you're not just losing the clearcoat, you are also losing the basecoat.

There was a thread on this a month or so ago. Even putting on a vinyl wrap was discussed. Might try searching for it.

I agree here with RA. I think he's actually referring to the thread I started on the same topic. The clearcoat is peeling on the roof and hood of my rig, which sucks cuz my truck is almost in perfect condition except for the paint. Basically, after weighing my options I decided it's stupid to spend money on a right-now solution when I can save up and do it right the first time.

I also agree that you can take it to a body shop and discuss your options there.

I might have considered the vinyl rap option if it was just my hood or roof, since I think black would look cool with my evergreen pearl truck, but I have too much area to cover.

I have a 2005 sport edition that has the clear coat coming off on the hood and roof. The cost for repair would be more than the vehicle is worth.

I know, but he told me that it was an e-locker SR5 with a blue leather interior. Apparently too rare for him to pass up at $600. He even blew up that e-locker diff the following year. All in all he says it was a solid deal, even if it does now require extensive rust repair on the body.

Tell him he can come to my garage I gotta patch some rockers and fix the wheel wells in a month on my 99
