Clear corners/bumpers?

Hey guys. So I was looking through the picture gallery and it seems like most people have gone with clear corners/bumpers on their rigs so I started to think it might be something I would like to do to mine. Where is a good site to get a pair of corners/bumpers?

The only place I've seen is Burtman Industries but I imagine there are definitely other places out there that sell them. Is $49/$74 a good price? (that's what they're listed at on Burtman).

And how did you guys go about installing them? Did you do it yourself or get them done at a shop?

It's simple. Easy peezy. Go to ebay and you'll find them pretty cheap. I think you can get everything you need for about $50 if I remember correctly. Also, get some chrome bulbs for the blinkers and LEDS or chrome bulbs for the corners and then you get a nice clean finish with no orange tint coming through. Installing is simple. A few screws. I think the corners you're have to take out a screw or two and then pull (carefully). The results are great as I think everyone who has the clear lenses would agree. :dancin:

Here's what I found on eBay.

Clear Corners/Bumpers

Not a bad deal.

Would you mind going into a little more detail on the install or can someone point me in the direction of a write-up?

Well... hmmm.. On my 97 for the bumper lights, all you do is unscrew the screw on the left and the right and the plastic cover comes off. It may be different on yours... And I think the corners, if you open the hood, you will find one or two screws attached to the housing. Unscrew them and then you have to pull the male end of the housing out of a little socket which is sort of behind the housing. Thats it.

Ok sounds easy enough. I'll take a look at them tomorrow and see if I can find where the screws are located for the corners.

So what are you guys saying about getting chrome/LED bulbs for the bumpers/corners? I would also need to replace the bulbs in order to get a true "clear" effect? Or will just installing the clear corners/bumpers do the job?

Well, the bulbs are orange as they are. With clear lenses, the outside will be clear but the orange will be noticeable through the clear plastic. With a chrome or LED bulb, they will flash orange (if you get the ones that do that) but when the lights are off you can't see them. Thats how you get a true clear effect.... affect? Not sure which one :p

Trust me. Thats the way to go.

Effect. ;):

Ok I understand what you're saying. Do I need a specific kind of bulb for that? Like a certain size? Or can I just look around on eBay for chrome/LED bubls?

ive got amber led's also ive made my corner lights flash with the turn signal's all i had to do was run the ground wire off the back of the socket to the turn signal wire .... i got my led's from http://stores.ebay.com/warden-jp2002] your gonna need this load resistor so they wont blink fast

You do need a certain size. And I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll try and check tomorrow. I got the bumper/blinkers from ebay by looking for "chrome bulbs." As far as the corners go, I have chrome bulbs in there right now and they don't give out hardly any light (though they look good during the day) so I'm going to try some LEDS. LEDS are not my strong suit so someone else will have to chime in on that. Where is Fo_SheeZy at? All this talk about clear corners and such :p

Fo_SheeZy would know about LEDS too. You could try and PM him.

So I looked at my bumper lights and there isn't a screw that I can see to remove the lens. I found a write-up for how to install clear corners/bumpers here But for some reason my computer can't open the pages "Step 1/2/3" etc.

For the bumper ones you have to remove the two screws on each side of the light. Then you pull the whole light out and can disconnect it or not, your choice.

The lense is not really held on by anything. There is a rubber gasket type thing that seals the light. The lense might be a little harder to remove the first time.

The corners are auctually easy. Just give them a nice "tap" towards the front and they will come out nicely.

Boo- That stinks about them not fitting. Is it the shape of them?

The ebay link posted wasn't working for me but I am assuming the seller is neondials. He sent me two drivers side corners now and neither have fit. This guy is kind of a moron too. I explained to him multiple times what the problem was and even sent him pictures and he still couldn't figure it out. Cost me an additional $7 to ship the first corner back which was not refunded. Now I have a corner that I am going to have to try and modify to get it to work. So buyer beware...he is incompetent.

As for the bumpers, there are two screws on the back side of the lenses. Get those out and that's done. For the corners pop the hood and there is one screw you need to remove. Then comes the hard part. Yank those corners straight out. Mine were really difficult. I found bulbs for the corners on ebay for $5 shipped.

The seller is neondials. Thank you for the heads up. I will steer clear and not buy from him. Guess that means I'm going to Burtman where it's quite a bit more pricey unless I can find someone else selling them on eBay.

Hmm, I'd go with Ebay. Plenty of sellers offer them and you'll save a lot of money instead of Burtman. Burtman has many great accessories for the 4Runner, but some are way overpriced, like the clear corners. But if you've got the extra money to blow, then go with him.

They're pretty easy to install, for all 4 pieces, it should take no less than 10 mins.

Wait, I was just thinking. How are clear bumper lenses any different from the regular bumper lenses? Isn't the orange just coming from the bulb? So wouldn't that mean all you had to do was get a chrome bumper bulb in order to get the "clear" effect? Or am I just stupid and missing something here?

i got my corners from jason and bumper lenses from ebay.

i'm probably gonna have to buy another set of lenses because one of mine has terrible mud/moisture behind the lenses.
