Clear-Plastic Protectant at trim panel?

Ive looked online, on Conicelli's, etc etc....cant seem to get a clear-cut answer.

There is a clear-plastic-looking protective coating at he base of the door's plastic trim on my 2008 T4R. Im wondering what this material is, or if there is something darn-close to it. Im rehab'ing my first car ever, and it's known for rust issues where the weather and road debris hit the body continuously. Id like to attain some kind of this "film" to line said areas.

Anyone have any idea?

(by the way, i know 3M makes a protective layer, but this wont hold up to the punishment that area gets.)

Not sure what you are referring to, but I have an idea. Partznet may not have it, but ask at a body shop. They would know (in theory). When my brother's RAV4 was repainted, it was late 1 day b/c of some film at the base of the rear doors that hadn't come in on time.

Why not try some clear plasti-dip? I've also been looking for a solution to rock chips on my lower panels and doors. Ever since I upgraded my tires, put on Spidertrax, and took off my mud flaps, my doors and rear bumper have taken a beating when going up mountain trails at higher speeds. I'm going to mask off an area behind each wheel well and see how it comes out. If I don't like it, I'll just peel it off. I'm a believer in plasti-dip, I've had it on my grill and my wheels for almost a year now and the stuff is durable. Plus I can make it as thick or as thin of a coating as I want. I'll keep you posted.
