help !!! the plastic film along lower door trim covers turned black. its the rock protection film stuff

how can i fix this?

talked to a car paint shop and the guy said it cant be removed without ruining the rocker covers so to fix it you need all new plastic body covers

im thinking this cant be true, its just a tape film they put on so there must be a way to dissolve that glue and get it off

it has a varicose vein look to it and im trying to sell it so i need to fix it in a way that doesnt require painting the whole set of door trim covers

Peel the old off, clean with goof-off or some other sticker residue cleaner. WD40 works great for that and doesn't harm the paint. Body shop people are lazy and didn't want to do the work, easier for them to replace and they would make more profit off you.

but how? i tried to see if i could lift it but its not lifting

its on plastic door trim so i cant use a strong solvent to lift the glue without melting the plastic as well as the paint and i sure cant use a heat gun without melting the plastic door cover and even an eraser disk will heat the plastic and burn it

im at a loss as to how to do this and i was thinking of just spray painting over the film as my only option unless someone knows a way to get it off

One of the results stood out to me so here a link to that one....but while this sounds like it should work they didn't mention that I saw that any of the film was on plastic cladding, so I would test any of the steps especially if it involves using a solvent on some of the other plastic cladding not easily visable.

thanks, and ya im scared as hell to ruin the paint, im gonna be underwater selling it as it is after messing up the rear bumper cover when old lady jack knifed the trailer backing in yard (she was distracted on her phone of course) so i really cant afford to put more money into it
