clicking noies in a 4th gen V8

i just had my valve guide seals replaced, apparently they were improperly installed when the vehicle was manufactured. now i notice a very distinct ticking noise coming from the engine. any idea what this noise could be?

Man, I've only heard of this on the v6 1gr-fe not the 2uz-fe v8. My 6 clicks and so do others, but every v8 lover claims no clicking. Who rebuilt it? Have it rebuilt again if you are still under warranty.

First, a guess then a couple of questions. It may be the valve clearance. This adjustment should have been made when the guides were replaced. Did you have any noise prior to the guides being replaced? How many miles on the engine? What kind of oil/filter combo are you using?

When my hood is closed, my V8 sounds really quiet... However, if I open the hood with the engine running, I hear some VERY loud ticking... I ended up tracking it down by listening and it's actually just the fuel injector pintles opening and closing. I thought something was wrong with mine the first time I heard the engine idling with the hood up, but it's nothing.... If you close the hood, it is barely audible on my 4Runner.

I know you don't want to hear this, but our '03 V8 w/60K miles is quiet as a mouse at idle - no clicks or other adventitious noises.

I'd return it to the dealer who did the valve seal replacement.
