clicking noise while spinning on ice

My driveway is a sheet of ice right now. When pulling back into the driveway, in 2hi, my tires were spinning and I got this really loud clicking. Sounded a bit more like a grind though.

Is this the traction control or something?

I've spun my wheels on other Tacomas and 4Runners but have never heard this before.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yes that would be TRAC kicking in most likely; did you notice the power being cut to the wheels? Or a blinkin light on the dash? What year is your 4R?

Thanks. No, I did not notice either power being cut or lights on the dash - but that's not to say they didn't happen. Just didn't notice. I had 2 screaming kids in the back seat.

It's an '02 SR5

Yeah I think you should be fine. TRAC is engaged even when your 4Runner is in 2wd and 4wd, and its only switched off when you lock the center diff, which I think the SR5 has? I know all the Limiteds like mine have them.

Yes, that's your traction system kicking in. You will see a little orange symbol in the upper left corner of your dash.
