Clicking sound while decelerating?

Lately I've been hearing a clicking sound at low speeds while decelerating. I only hear it when I'm slowing down, either while on the brakes or just coasting. Typically I hear it when slowing down for stop signs, red lights, or making a turn. If I get back on the gas even the slightest bit, the clicking sound stops, and returns as soon as I let off the gas again. I only hear it at slow speeds. The speed of the clicking is proportional to the speed of the vehicle. The sound is like a click or very small pop.

Bad u-joint(s) most likely? '99 Limited 4x4, 260,000 miles.

Forgot to update the thread. Sound is still present in 4wd. Greasing the driveshaft helped reduce the clicking, but it is still there.

I have the same noise, on the same situation, and still looking for some answer! I ride with this noise for now 20 000 miles (Off-road, long distance...), no problem but still curious what it is so Anybody have an answer for this?
 
I have this problem too so I'm wondering if you had to replace the U-joints or did you resolve this some other way?

I'm having this same sound on my 01 4Runner SR5 2WD. It has 295K miles on it and I just had both U joints replaced and the sound is now a little worse. You'd swear I was driving the Wheel of Fortune! The sound happens when coming to a stop whether in Drive or Neutral starting at 20 mph and slower. It's loud enough to be embarrassing. Anyone figured out what the problem is?
 
I have the same issue with my 01 2WD Sport. Greased the u-joints and no change.
Can it be the rear wheel bearings?

That thought crossed my mind. Gonna bring it back to the shop because after the u joints were replaced I now get a vibration that starts at 20 and gets so bad I can't go above 75. Drive shaft out of balance? They said it can only go on one way but something is clearly wrong. I'll see if they can lube the rear while they are at it.

Wheel bearings make a constant whine, metal on metal spinning.

My guess is u-joints for everyone in this thread. If greasing didnt help then they need to be replaced with OEM not auto part store junk.

If you didn't mark your shaft at the spline then yes it could be out of balance. The spline will go back in at any rotation, but they are balanced for a certain position. See if there are any paint marks that may help you to line it up (mine still has some from either the factory or a previous owner repair).

Thanks for the responses. I'll check for marks when I get a chance. As far as the ujoint brand, I went with AutoZone Duralast. Used them before but definitely not the best. How are Moog ujoints?
 
Does Toyota make replacement U-joints for our rigs?
Or do you just have to take it to a driveshaft shop to get it rebuilt?

Not true on a 2WD. There is no center slip yoke, the slip yoke is in the transmission.
