Clicking sounds from climate control

I have a limited as well and have not experienced any clicking noises. I have used the auto temp control as well as manual.
It's probably the control valve adjusting to the temp setting (i.e. opening to let hot water through exchanger to produce warmer air). Either way, it should be silent - I would take it in and have the dealership fix it (how could they expect a new car to make odd noises and have it sell????)

I also have a 2010 Limited 4Runner and am experiencing the same clicking noise from the dash, regardless of whether or not the A/C is on. It does sound like it is trying to eject a CD from the disc drive, although the drive is completely empty. The sound appeared about 6 months after purchasing the truck.
I have an appointment to take my truck in tomorrow, so I will let everyone know what the technicians find.

I just got back from the dealership, and at first, they told me the sound was too faint and that I was being too picky (!). After pressing them to look further, they ejected the Navigation disc, and that stopped the noise. Apparently, the noise was coming from the periodic scanning of the disc. But, you have to have the disc inserted in order for the Nav to work. They told me that was the way the system was designed, but I find it hard to believe that a functional system would be making that noise constantly.
How could Toyota see that as acceptable?
I told them that the problem only appeared 6 months after purchasing the truck and that they need to look into other 2010 4Runners at the dealership to see if they make the noise. I left the truck with them and am waiting to hear back about what they find in other vehicles. At one point, they suggested that I use the radio to cover up the noise, which I said wasn't a real solution.
I will keep you posted...

Unbelievable. The dealership said they checked out another brand new 2010 Limited 4Runner on the lot and that it had the same clicking noise when the Navigation disc was inserted (no noise after it was ejected). They said that there is nothing they can do for my truck, because that is the way Toyota manufactured all vehicles. Nice engineering and quality control, Toyota. Once again, I was told to play the radio to cover up the noise. Granted, the noise isn't loud, but it's very noticeable.
Is there anything I can do at this point??

Nice, maybe I have not paid close enough attention to mine--I'll give it a listen when I go for the morning coffee tomorrow. As for what you can do, seems if the dealer will not fix then only options are 1) deal with it, which is the easy road; 2) escalate and file complaint with Toyota via telephone and written letter, both requesting a response--this is more aggravation that may not pay off; and 3) go for an aftermarket stereo/nav system and sell you factory one to recoup some of the cost.
I'll let you know if I hear it, then my wife will be pissed I read this thread and looked for a noise. She knows I can't handle or simply deal with creaks/pops/and otherwise mysterious noises. It has to be QUIET and to my liking. :thanks:

Thanks for the response, Timothy. Likewise, I can't deal with mysterious noises. My husband has told me to just deal with it! I'm going to take option 2: filing a complaint with Toyota via telephone and written letter. I'm on my way to pick the truck up from the dealership, and I plan on listening to the new 4Runner they claimed had the noise. I'll keep everyone updated on my struggles...

The exact BS I am talking about...at first I started the other thread as a joke, as I like to look at the lighter side. Now, I am starting to see that it is way too widespread. We all spend $30K plus on our vehicles and this is what we have to deal with?!?!? I honestly don't blame Toyota for this, but hope they don't know that this is going on (wishful thinking maybe). There are going to be problems and issues with the product, but the support you receive leaves a lasting memory...

I have a 2010 Trail Edition, and am hearing the same noise. It is periodic though. Sometimes I hear, sometimes I don't. Regardless of HVAC settings. I will eject the NAV DVD next time I hear it and see if that fixes it. Let me know if there is anything permanent the dealership can do about it.

Follow-up:
The clicking noise continued to get worse, so I went to a different dealership (not the one I purchased the truck from). They compared the noise from my navigation unit with the one in a brand new 4Runner, and they agreed that there was definitely a problem with mine. With the new truck, you could hear the disc scanning every once in a while, but it was no where near the noise level and frequency of mine.
The dealership submitted a claim to the nav manufacturer, received the new unit, and installed it in my truck. It works perfectly (and has been for several months), and I'm so relieved.
My advice is the following: a little noise from the nav unit is normal, but in my case, I didn't hear a thing for the first 6 months of owning the truck. The noise got progressively worse to the point where it was obvious that something was defective. If the noise coming from your unit continues to get louder and louder, I'd take it in to the dealer and compare it to a new truck. If it is defective and that particular dealer won't admit it, take it somewhere else.

Thanks for the follow up Sarah. My limited isn't really making any noise thus far after 8 months, at least nothing that noticiable. I'll keep this in mind should it get worse.

As another follow-up, my navigation unit was replaced nearly a year ago, and it was perfectly silent for the first several months. Then, progressively over time, the clicking and "seeking" noise appeared and got considerably worse, which is exactly what happened with the original unit. It seems to be some degenerative problem with the system.

Hmm, I'm at 30k miles and haven't heard this. I do hear it occasionally, but it''s not very frequent at all. I don't know if it matters (I doubt it does), but I have all my CD slots full also. Thanks for the follow up, Sarah.
