Clicking / ticking / clanking noise in engine - 2004 V6

I have a 2004 V6 with about 55k miles on it. Something I've always noticed is this noise coming form the engine.

It almost sounds like there's something being thrown around inside the engine if that makes sense. It's not real loud, but you can hear it easily when inside the car - it kind of has a clicking sound to it. It's not constant, only happens from time to time.

It's done this for as long as I can remember. I've never pursued the issue because it doesn't have any impact on performance and i've got a full warranty through 75000 miles, figured I'll take it in close to that time if not before.

My question is, does anyone know what it is? Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts?

I've had a noise once in a while -- turned out to be a bad pulley on one of the times, and the last was noise from the serpentine belt. You might check these two areas just to make sure they are OK.

I hear it too. I searched threads and found the information to not be all that useful. I would like more discussion on the subject. I have heard exhaust manifold gaskets, valves, fuel injectors all realted to aluminum block of 1GR-FE. Doesn't sound like dealers know what's going on. Engine runs great otherwise. Mine sounds faint, but more pronounced when the engine is cold. Sounds like a valve to me. I have the extended platinum and it looks like valve lash should be adjusted at 60k miles so we'll see what happens. I think I'll go to the dealer for next oil change and bug the tech. about it.
