Clicking when accelerating from stop

Hi

Wondering if it's just me or has anyone heard of this issue.

When I'm accelerating from a stop it clicks under the steering wheel like traction control comes on. Very brief maybe two clicks. Happens randomly but only when stopped. Going to call service tomorrow when they open.


Everything else is fine minus the alignment. I brought it in yesterday to fix the alignment. It was out of spec and now it's worse.
2016 trail edition the clicking has been occurring before the alignment though.

I have it. its a clicking noise for about 1 second. I notice it in the morning after I back out of my driveway, shift to drive and accelerate. It sounds like some function of traction control.
 
First post. I have the same noise. Same scenario as sirbarton. Back out, go into drive and hear the click. Would definitely like to know if this is normal as well.
 
I would say that it is normal as I have had it happen several times when shifting from reverse in my 2013. If you take a second before pressing the accelerator it will not happen.
 
I have it. Think I read on here somewhere that it was some kind of electrical relay that had to do with the doors locking when you hit a certain speed after you put in drive (still does it if you have the feature turned off as I do).
 
Mine does something similar, only when first started, rolling away from a stop as others have described. I attributed it to traction control calibrating itself, never really gave it much more thought.
 
mine has done this if I'm still rolling backwards slightly, and I shift it in to drive. In my case, it was the downhill assist kicking in.

Are you going from R to D?
 
Mine often clicks the first time I start moving after I've started it. It is usually just one click, I think. I assume it's normal, but I don't know what it is.
 
Not sure if we are talking the same thing but I started a thread awhile back on this. Mine does it one time after being started and moving forward in drive. It does not do it again unless the truck is shut off and restarted.

Sounds just like a relay click, always at very low mph when first rolling in drive.

I have searched everywhere on the internet and this forum and have yet to figure it out. Been doing it since brand new. I just chalk it up to the other noises the 4Runner makes that I am not used to.

It is the ABS self-check. Normal.

You beat me to it. I have people coming in all day telling me their brakes are making a weird noise. So I get to tell the same story to different people a few times a day

Don't think it is the pads. It sounds like a relay or solenoid clicking. Mine does it and did it this morning. Mine will also do it going up my steep driveway on perfectly dry pavement if I pause at the bottom with no shifting. Sound is usually 2 or 3 quick clicks like a tiny gatlin gun in my drivers side dash/footwell.

If there is a relay to activate the door locks, I would think that is what is being heard.

Now a sidenote..... Why is there so much play in the front pads that allow this shifting and noise to take place?
One would think Toyota would have a fix for that.
IE: Tighter fitting pad to pin tolerances or some type of bushing to take up the play....:confused:

Any comments?
