clicking when rolling back on an incline

What gives? I'm assuming it's the traction control, but the wheels aren't slipping.

Its the hill assist and yes its normal. Its your ABS activating so you dont roll backwards prior to stepping on the accelertor.

Does anyone read the manuals anymore? I think Toyota should have cut the manual out of production to save costs and keep some of the features they deleted from the 4th! Everyone comes here for the simplest questions and are standard advertised features. Seriously though, I'm sure they could have saved enough money for the LED's and fielded less complaints about missing manuals than missing LED's!

Why the silly staccato braking

Hi,

If I were the 4runner I would gently apply the brakes to stop it from rolling backwards. Instead there is this annoying staccato braking. I assume this is necessary for some reason. Does anyone know why the ABS works this way?

My 1980 Subaru had a mechanical hill hold that was far superior in function...so far...

Because just locking the brakes in place defeats the purpose of the Anti-lock Braking System?

In hill assist I think a slower brake cadence would work fine. This is a very special situation, not a panic stop in a poor traction situation.

because if the brakes were on and locked, you wouldn't be able to go forward either. :trophy:
