Climate Control for 2014 SR5 PE. HELP NEEDED!

I was wondering if anyone would know about replacing the climate control unit. I have a 2014 SR5 PE and want to replace the stock climate control to the one that is from the Limited.

I did purchase a stock climate control unit (on ebay) from 2014 Limited 4Runner.

After installing it, it doesn't function properly. The unit seems to receive power but I am unable to operate the fan, turn on the A/C, and the temperature is not displayed on either sides.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Maybe I need to run some wires to the ECU or something along those lines. I also have Toyota Techstream is that's needed.

Did you also replace the control knobs for the auto temp dual zone settings? There should also be 2 temp sensors someplace. I think you are in uncharted territory here.

Maybe there's a wiring diagrams out there for both PE and Limited that i can compare or maybe there's something that I can get from a dealer. Like a wiring harness or something

To my knowledge, nobody has gotten this to work- you could be the first!

I think you are going to have to switch the entire assembly up under the dash, and even then it's still a crap shoot...

I took a quick look at the electrical diagrams for the Automatic Climate Control system and the Manual Climate Control system. One difference is, the Limited has a different Blower Assembly; more automatic dampers. The Main Body ECU 'appears' to be the same but the A/C Amplifiers may be different as well; the Smart-Key version has a different wiring scheme then the non smart-key version regarding the serial data can-bus lines. I'll post the two climate control diagrams here so you can compare them in a few; need to scan them into my computer, upload to photobucket and then I'll post them.

Here are the Two sets of 4Runner 'Climate control' diagrams (Automatic and Manual). The first, the Automatic Climate Control system; pgs 1 and 2. I've marked certain Key differences between the two for convenience; there may be others. The A/C Blowers are different; as noted by the presence of a *Fourth* damper motor on the Automatic diagram.



Next, the absence of a 'Room Temperature Sensor' in the Manual climate control system schematic make them technically unique. Additionally, in the 'Body Control Modules' diagram section, there are other Subtle differences regarding some of the 'Communication data lines' and their network function.



I believe that the conversion that you aspire to implement is do-able. The question is... "will it prove economically profitable... or prohibitive..."

Not necessarily 4Runner specific, but this was a common desire on the WJ Grand Cherokees. Lot of guys would buy the automatic unit and think it'd just work.

Most times, auto units such as that will have blend doors/actuators etc to work with dual zones, different blower motor setups, and the extra wiring/control units/etc under the dash.

I remember a few guys pulling it off on the Jeeps, but it required completely removing the dash and a lot of time/energy/money.


I know you're selling the unit it at this point, but it would probably be cheaper to trade in and just buy a Limited rather than attempt the conversion...
