So we got all this free steel so we decided to put the old welder to good use.

so we first took CM's bumper off to get an idea of what we wanted to do.

We knew we wanted to get the hitch reciever as high as possible, since we both have the 2" body lift we decided to run a 3" box in between the frame and the body and make a "C" around the frame. So i started welding.

:lol: it does look like it doesnt it. the shop we work in is tiled. It is supposed to be un breakable un stainable tile as you can tell by the chipped and stained tiles in the pic.

Do allow enough space between the bumper and the body. I left 5/8" and I have a couple of spots that the bumper did make contact from body/frame flex.

it sucks welding in 100+ weather. LOL im pretty sure i sweated a couple gallons. hopefully we will have the sides on tomorrow.

Need more. Love it when someone builds their own stuff. Saw a truck one day that said "built not bought" on the side of it. Wish I still had my welder and free steel is always great. Keep up the good work.

X2, Mine contacted with 3/4" gap.

Bumpers look great so far.

My buddy just mentioned last night he's making tube bumpers for his Mega Cab Cummins... Now how can I convince him to help me build some bumpers for the 4R...

Ya its all 3/16th. Im thinking they will way around 150-200lbs without tire or jerry can. but we planned ahead and ordered the heavy OME rear coils:hatsoff:. i was thinking the same thing about the flex, it will make the rear of the frame way more stout.
