Clunk in driveline

Hi everyone I am a newbie on here. Just picked up a 2006 v8 Sport (pic in the pic thread). Anyway there seems to be a small clunk in the drive line someplace. It's like if i am on a hill facing up or down and come to a complete stop, while stopping there is a little clunk. Also can happen when starting, but mostly with what seems to be the last downshift.

Any ideas? IS this normal on the AWD models? IF it is the drive line, would it be covered as part of the power train warranty? This rig has 45k on the odometer and runs great, looks great and i got a smoking deal.

you might try getting it lubed. do you know when the last time was?

Normal. Lubing it does make it less severe, but inevitably, it will come back. No longterm effects from the clunk that I know of. And, no, Toyota will not do anything for you...it is considered "normal" to Toyota to have this clunk.

In a nutshell: The front and rear driveshafts contract/expand as the suspension moves. There is a slider sleeve over the shafts that dry out and stick. When you're stopping, the sleeves sometimes get stuck a little forward from their seat. What you're feeling "especially in the rear" is that slider sleeve letting go and hitting into it's normal resting spot. There are areas on the driveshaft, called Zerks, that you can hook up a $10 grease gun too to fill up the shaft to help prevent the sleeve from sticking. It's an ongoing thing, some do it every oil change, some do it every 10k miles, some don't have it - most do though. It's a design flaw that runs through several Toyota models. It doesn't hurt the car though, it's just annoying sometimes.

Thanks guys. This is what i thought. I'll get under and lube it up, the last oil change was 1000 miles ago, but who knows if they lubed it up.
