Clunking from brakes. Not driveshaft?

Hi. I got a weird clunk coming from my front brakes. Only happens when I press my brakes. I can also feel it in the brake pedal. Sounds like metal to metal. I don't think it's my driveshaft because it only happens when braking. Mostly during lower speeds.
You think the pins might need some grease? Maybe a ball joint or something? My calipers don't look like they are in the best condition since they are brown from rust but brakes are working fine. No siezing that I know of.
Any help would be appreciated.

I’ve had this happen. It is caused by a slight notch being worn in the front pad pins. When you press the pedal, the pads catch and then release as they pass over the notch in the pin - causing the clank sound as the pads make abrupt contact with the rotors.

Replace the pins (and the pad springs while you’re in there) and you’ll be good to go.

Edit: I would check the condition of the front caliper pistons, looking for any corrosion or anything that would restrict movement within the bore, as a slightly sticky piston can cause this same noise.

Thanks. I thought it had something to do with the calipers as well. I'm planning on replacing the front rotors in the future. Hopefully this fixes the issue.

Edit: I meant change the front calipers. Probably 5th gens

Had this happen on a few cars. Like the other poster said it’s the springs or may be be pads getting loose after awhile. Not really something to be too concerned about imo, I prob put 50k on a set of pads that did this.

the clanking sound on mine happens, during normal driving and goes away if i depress the brake pedal
