Clunking on full turns...

I have an '05 4Runner Sport. When I make a tight turn I get a loud "clunk" from the front end. Any ideas on what is causing this? I replaced the Dunflops with the Michelin Cross Terrains, but they are the stock size.
Any suggestions before I go to the dealer?

Neither my wife's 04 V-8 nor my 06 clunk on turns and one reason I've thought the 4R seems of higher quality. However, my 02 Explorer did clunk when turning and I understand this is normal with a lot of 4x4s. You might want to have the front drive and turning gear checked.

Forgot to mention...it's a 2WD model. Wife and I went shopping today, tight turn into a parking space at the Mall..."CLUNK!"

I'll add that to the normal list of the rear end clunk , rattle over bumps in front end , stink when back window down.

I went underneath my 4Runner and looked at the bump stops. No lube at all on them from Toyota, a good coat of rust on both. In the rust were a couple of shiny spots with a sort of downward streak of shiny metal.

This makes me think that it is sort of like the typical California earthquake called (IIRC) a strike-slip. I believe that on the 4Runners that the inital hard contact of the metal-to-metal has very high coefficient of friction and that when there is enough force to overcome it you get a slip that results in the loud clunk.

Mine had started doing this in the last couple of months and yesterday I gave the metal surfaces a light coat of lithium grease. So far, I have been unable to repeat the previous "clunk" sound.
