Clunky Frontend

I got an 04, v6, 4x4 with 148k. I'm getting new tires and notice that fronts are worn on the inside and out.

But I also notice the frontend feels sloppy and their is clunking noises when I hit bumps, potholes, etc. I'm not sure what course of action to take to save $$ and my new tires.

Should I bring it in to the tire shop for an alignment and have them look at it.

Go ahead and replace steering component?

It has original shocks, should I start with putting new ones on?

any advice would be appreciated.

Hey Badbob,

I just had some experience with those front end clunking noises after driving over bumps, potholes. Has been going on for a while, and I finally got annoyed enough to bring it in to my mechanic. We were able to isolate it to worn out front stabilizer bar (or sway bar) bushings. Got the pair replaced today and the clunking noise is gone. Nice and smooth over all those bumps.

I have the same problem, I think. Does it feel like something is hitting the firewall right under the drivers feet?
