Recently my newly installed clutch failed. It was about 3 monhts old with about 4,000 miles on it. absolutely no problems until hell broke lose. I was going up a hill, and shifted into 3rd gear and i started revving. I kept reving the engine to keep the car moving, without realizing what was going on, and there was a car behind me. In about 10 seconds the clutch was gone, and i started rolling backwards. I put on the E brake and turned around and whent back down the hill.
The clutch action after the incodent was very slow on the return, and seemed easy to depress. I bled the clutch and the action was exactly the same. The slave cilundar moved what seemed to be the proper distance, and returned to being fully compressed when the pedel returned to normal.
Tonight i took the transmission off, and found the shards of the burnt out clutch. No bolts were lose, and besides the clutch plate being totally fried everything seemed to look tight. Except i found a piece of rubber that was on the clutch cover plate, which i assume keeps water, dust, and dirt out of the clutch area. The rubber was torn up and stuck behind the flywheel.
Is it possible that the rubber came off, and stuck itself between the clutch disc and flywheel/clutch plate, and caused it to slip uncontroablly?...
I just want to make SURE that after i replace the clutch THIS time, I don't have to replace it again in 3 months...
