clutch fan

Anyone here ever thought about replacing their clutch fan with an electric? my brother was talking about it with me, and we think you could squeeze a couple more ponies out of it. it would be one less thing running off the pulleys, and then it would just kick on with a thermostat instead. just thought id ask if anyone has done it or thought about it.

It may be more trouble than it's worth. The fan belt also powers the power steering. You will have to have a special belt that misses the fan, unless of course you plan on the belt going on the fan pulley without the fan.

Replacing the belt to go just on the power steering, engieers have balanced the engine and this may cause a in-balance.

Of course if you want to remove the fan and still use the pully and keep the old belt, keep in mind the fan adjusts and doesn't spin much when not needed, then it hydroically spins more when the engine is warm taking out a few horse power, so the engineers have already thought of this.

I remember an engineering friend in College that wanted to run the air conditioning of a car run on a small motor to give more power to the big engine. Needless to say his School project didn't work.
