Clutch noise only above 3500 rpm , throw out bearing ??

So I replaced clutch not long ago with complete Marlin set up. New pressure plate , flywheel , disc, throw out bearing , etc. Operation and feel have been great other than I get a distinct noise and slight vibration in the clutch pedal when depressed ONLY above 3500 rpm when shifting. Absolutely no noise or vibration under that engine speed. Happens shifting in all gears and even in neutral. Do I have a bad throw out bearing or pilot bearing( replaced that too)? Or is there an adjustment I missed? I do have a new pedal assembly and bushings/ springs to install to eliminate the squeaking/ noisy pedal but this noise is different. Thanks in advance for the help as I don’t really want to pull this trans again if I don’t have to!

This seems to be a very common problem on 4runners and tacomas. I've got the exact issue on my 97 5speed, except it was present before and after my marlin crawler clutch install.

It seems to be mostly vibrations. In nuetral, with the clutch about 1/2 pressed and revving at 3k+, the clutch pedal vibrates like mad.


Problem is, no one seems to have found the answer.. at least not posted about it.

Thanks for the info. I definitely am curious and will sort through the posts. It did not do this prior to the clutch replacement. Original clutch lasted me 220k. Guess I will start with inspecting the slave and external components again closer. I will post findings.

In the same boat but with vibrations only, no noise. The last time I changed my clutch I noticed that the fork that holds the throw out beating had worn down the it's pivot point. With 330k, perhaps it has dug some wiggle room, causing vibrations.

Most experienced it AFTER clutch replacement, like yourself.

My only theory is that when removing the trans, the input shaft (that goes thru the pilot bearing) somehow gets bent or moved. At low speeds it is not noticable, but when spinning faster (3k rpm +) the out-of-round becomes more apparent and may actually contact the clutch fingers... which explains why its typically worse at half clutch press.
