I had my clutch pedal out to replace the torsion spring bushing and realized that I might not have the clutch adjusted right. I was reading the FSM and 2 things are confusing.
First, it pictures a height adjustment bolt, but I have the cruise control switch where that would be. Should I just use the sensor like the bolt to set the height?
Second, it's unclear where exactly on the floor to measure from. I tried to hold the ruler as perpendicular to the pedal surface as possible but it says to measure from the "asphalt sheet" or the "floor panel". Is this what would be under the carpet? If so do I need to pull the carpet down to get a correct measurement. I just pushed the ruler as hard as I could into the carpet and added 3-4 mm to my measurement to account for carpet thickness
Finally, should the "free play" at the top of the pedal be super free or just pretty soft? It seems like the free play is really just the clearance between the pin that attaches the master cylinder plunger to the pedal arm. So basically you're just adjusting the plunger so that there's 1-5mm of travel before the hole in the pedal and the pin come in contact?
I think mine was way too low because the clutch engaged right off the floor and getting into gear, especially reverse was sometimes kind of notchy. But now that I have it adjusted the pedal just kind of feels slightly too high. But I want to make sure I'm getting enough travel out of the pedal so the clutch is fully disengaging. I'm assuming it's right and I'll just get used to the new position with time.
