cluttered classifieds really needed?

Just a quick thought. Do we really need 256 pages of stuff for sale? I mean really, if something is sold or really old, why wont the posters delete it already. Im sure we could use that space for some shared tech and sweet photos.

Am I right or wrong to think this?

IMO --If the item is sold, i think the poster should delete it. But if the item is still for sale (even tho the post is 5 yrs old), keep it. That's when "Search" becomes your friend.
 
In a way keeping it, yes. But after a reasonable amount of time it should be taken off by the poster. I mean look on the last page. 11-25-2002 posting still up? Come on really? And the guy even says "Sorry, the manuals are now sold."

Ok so take the add down if they are sold.

Just my .02 for the morning.
 
could be and how sad is that? Oh no my post count will fall and I wont be as smart or trusted as I was yesterday. Boo Hoo Hoo!
 
I made a post in the suggestions about separeting the threads for parts and a seperate one for vehicles and wtb. No need to have it all jumbled up and you got to sort through200+ pages to see if someone wants to buy something or its for sale. Havent received a response on that yet and sure I prob will not. Its almost as bad as Craigslist.
 
An Admin or a Mod with the right powers can go in and prune the whole thing in minutes. Needs a sweeping for sure .

You're welcome! The more the merrier. But yeah it's sad to join in and no one welcomes you. :crybaby: That's how i felt when i first got here so i try mah best to welcome the newbies. It's a win-win situation. You make friends and postcounts. As you see, i got like 400+ friends already. :bluejump:
 
That section is definitely a cluster f*ck. Maybe some people don't realize you can delete a post or thread that you created. Automatically deleting threads older than 1 year would be nice.
 
Take a look around at other sites, most classifieds sections are that way. Just the nature of the beast I think.

I only know of two sites that keep their classifieds section clean. One archives the postings every six months or so, they other deletes everything over a year old.

I do agree the classifies here are a C.F. It would be a good idea to break them down somehow into categories (i.e. WTB, WTS, 4th gen parts, 3rd gen parts, etc)
 
just wondering why it matters how many pages of posts, nobody goes beyond the first couple pages anyways,

if you do your crazy.

Just look at the first couple pages, if i wanted something sold I would bump it til it was sold then it would disappear into the void.

and its not like we need that "space" to fill something else.

If the mods wanted to save some virtual "space" they could get rid of all the stupid clubs and stuff since no one ever goes into them. that would bring the pictorials and writeups closer to the top where people could use it.

It is not really a matter of why does it matter but more of a being proactive and responsible. Just look at it like this, if you have posted something for sale and it never sold or did sell, take it down or repost it. Why wait for someone else to figure out how to do a massive spring cleaning on other peoples mess.

It's not a life ending ordeal by anymeans but rather a way of being one step ahead of other cluttered sites and keeping T4R.ORG well groomed.

Deleting things that are a year or older...who goes through 100 pages to get to those anyway? Like said above...that is where search comes in handy.

I do agree that if something is sold it should be deleted. It should also be a rule that at the beginning of the thread title it should have 3rd Gen, 4th Gen, 5th Gen, etc...that would make it easier to search for model specific gear.
 
I like all the old threads in that section, helps give me and others what fair prices paid for certain items should be.
 
One time I tried inquiring about a certain item I really wanted...I said "guess you don't have it anymore"...and I got a "lol... It may still be for sale 4 years later:wow:..the posting was 11-02-2006.

The seller neglected to delete his posting after selling and my interest got me feeling laughed at.:bravo::rockthrow::happens:

I say it's the sellers responsibility to act upon their postings..it's nice to find items you may think you don't need now and find it still available. Specify what you need and use the Search button and not necessarily go thru every page.
 
My .02 is that anything over 1 yo should be swept automatically. It's foolish to rely on people to delete obsolete posts, it doesn't get done, it's a fact.

Any moderators with an opinion?
 
I think the best thing to do would be to just have different categories, like on yotatech. God forbid we copy something from another forum.. even if it does work better.:ybrick:
