Hey guys, for the past couple of days I've been going through the classified section and have been cleaning out all recent threads that have either requested to be deleted and/or specifically stated that all items have been sold in an effort to clean it up. If it doesn't state either, I am leaving them alone. With the amount of threads currently in the section it will take some time to go through them all.
So during this transitional period, when you do see a item that you may be interested in, pay close attention to the last response from the original poster. If the last post is more than a few months old be aware that it may have been sold or is no longer for sale. If it's been more than 6-12 months, i suggest you pm the seller instead of replying to the thread. I think this causes some of the confusion since it moves the thread to the top of the section where others may continue to inquire.
This is a community. You can't rely solely on the moderators/admins to clean everything up. So if you see a post that needs to be deleted, report it and the moderators/admins can address it. And if you are a seller, please remember to close out your thread or request the thread to be closed once the sale has been completed or no longer available.
Now regarding how to handle threads that are older than a year old; this is definitely a administrative decision. You can pm the admin directly and provide your suggestions.
I don't think that the administrators are against adopting what other forums are doing as long as it makes sense. if your suggestions is appropriate for this site and adds value, i'm sure it will be considered.
