CO Sand Dunes Trip Sept. 25

See the pics below. My Wife, Dad, and I took a trip over Medano Pass and dropped into the Sand Dunes National Park. The drive was mild with the occasional mud/water crossing. I didn't get any photo's driving through the dunes as the sand was pretty deep. We had to keep charging through... There is an area called "sand trap" for good reason.

I love getting the wheels off the ground! Before the front right dropped, it was about 2' off the ground. My Wife and Dad didn't know what to think when the front dropped. I had a big grin on my face.

This was a fuuuuuuun stream crossing. A Heep Grand Cherokee and Suburban followed me in. T4r was the only one of the three to make it out...I love my truck!

I was up at the Sand Dunes Nat'l Monument in June, camped at the Pinyon Pines campground there inside the park. Man, it was one windy beeeech.....

The park is nice, but getting on Medano Pass just inside/outside the park is soooo much fun and less crowded. As I wanted to see the difference between 4h and 4l in the sand, the sand trap was a good test. Conclusion-keep it in 4 low 2nd or 3rd gear. You need the torque!

Not to far on Medano (from the park) there is a picnic turn off. At that point you'll see a steep wall of sand shooting up 600' from the river. A lot of people bring their snowboards, skis, or sleds and have some serious fun. I wanted to see how fast I could sprint down-it took seconds...

It is cool that you took your dad and wife offroading. I like your dad's reaction when he is looking at your rear wheels. Those are great pics. It is nice to hear that a T4R was able to make it out of something that a Heep and Suburban couldn't. Those American cars think they are rugged!!!
