You could always order one and pay a local welder to weld it. They would probably appreciate the business during this time too. A buddy of mine got one and we got the whole think tacked in an afternoon. Super fun project. I'll be getting one of these soon hopefully. As for powder coating thats a personal preference. I know mine is gonne get scratched up from wheeling so I'm just going to bed liner mine. Then I can just rattle can it whenever it gets scratched up. Its a lot harder to fix powder coat.

It was a very fun project for my 2nd gen. I would recommend it as well just based on final product. Options are
1) get a welder yourself by borrowing or renting if that's possible, practice a bit and weld it yourself
2) have a pro do it for probably $3-500
That's it. The thing about it is that you're likely going to grind down all the outside welds anyway to make it look more smooth so weld appearance isn't that important, other than having it be strong.
I also recommend AGAINST powder coating if you plan on using the vehicle for actual off-roading. Reason being, if you scratch it ever, you will cry. And it can't really be fixed to look perfect again I don't think. I rattle canned mine in my gargage and it looks amazing. Plus when it gets dings or scratches, I literally hold a piece of cardboard to block off overspray and touch it back up in less than one minute.
End result makes it all worth it

Agree with the Coastal off road bumper being awesome looking. I'm in the same boat when it comes to either needing to learn to weld, or pay someone to do it. Neither option is attractive.

Welded my own as my first welding project. It sounds harder than it is, seriously. I literally just watched a bunch of YouTube videos, bought a second hand welder off Craigslist and started practicing.

I got a Lincoln weldpak style welder that runs off a standard wall plug. In hindsight the only thing I would recommend is getting gas to run mig. I did it flux core with no gas and its a lot more clean up. But Flux core does work and you do get strong welds.

I’ve been eyeing their kits, as well. I’ve been wanting an “excuse” to buy a welder and this is perfect one.

The fit up is pretty good, some minimal grinding required for everything to fit great. I had some issues but for first time welder with zero experience and no classes or anything, I think mine turned out well. Having issues uploading photos for some reason or I would add one.

Is this the 06' runner? I noticed the grills are different on some of the 4th gen runners and am wondering if I'll run into issues following the fender lines from where the grill drops down (Drops about 1" below the left and right fender lines) or does the kit compensate and cut around the grill..?
I am expecting the kit to arrive next week sometime.

Montijo505’s signature line says ’08. I’m not positive, but I think 06-09 are the same, as are 03-05. I don’t have an answer to your fender line question. I have an ’04.

Pretty sure the fender lines are still the same from 03-09. Only the grill, headlight and the trim piece below the headlights are different.
4th gen 4runners have a sort of smile to them when you are building the bumpers. They are all the same for the 4th gen years. You compensate for the smile when you are building the bumper.

I have the 06' 4runner and my grill looks like this (Mind the current bumper - had a mishap the other day).. Is this the "smile" you're referring to?

No. The smile is the line from the grill to the fender. It goes up slightly. Hard to see in pics but when you are building the bumper, it becomes very obvious.
The 06+ grill won't be an issue either. The bumper sits low enough to compensate for the lower hanging grill. You can also modify anything on the bumper while you are building it. You HAVE to build it on the truck, only the finish welding is done off the truck. If you do all the building off the truck, the bumper will not fit or look right.
The top plate that I have the hoop welded to is the area of your concern. You can see there is a good gap there that your 06 grill will be able to drop into and clear the bumper just fine.

Pretty much any welder can deal with the thickness of material involved. When you get to 5/16 or so you either need to make multiple passes or get more power and bigger welder. Mig is the cleanest, easiest to learn, Flux core is messy as mentioned but also easy to learn, stick is messy and hard to make look nice but is more forgiving on dirty metal, tig is the ultimate in my mind but harder to learn. Also keep in mind that mig and tig are usually inside deals unless your in a no wind area, stick and fluxcore don't care.
I do all my welding with a stick welder personally but I just traded some work for a mig, we'll see how I like it. There are a couple companies out there that make very nice machines and are fairly affordable, just have to find them. Ahp and primeweld come to mind.
