I have it too and I'm very happy with it. I didn't tune my antenna either and I can hear everyone loud and clear with a 3' Firestick, 18' coax, and even a 1' coax jumper. It doesn't have the weather stations which I thought was odd, but who listens to that crap anyways haha.

Depends upon what sort of use you're looking for... no matter what you should always tune the antenna since a high SNR can be harmful to the radio. If all you're looking to do is talk to your buddies on the trail you can stop right there. If you're wanting to reach out 5-10 miles down the road you might want to take it in and have the radio peaked and tuned...

well, I tried to tune the coagulation between the radio and the antennae tonight with a SWR meter I got from radio shack, no luck. I turn on the radio and there is absolutely no static which I thought was weird. I tried re-pluging in the mic, taking off the antennae completely anything and everything and there is no static at all, but it still turns on and does all the functions just fine.

Did you check your squelch? If so I cannot think of anything else not that I am much of an expert

I have a 24" "mirror mount" antenna that I clamped on my roof basket...got the whole kit for like $9

what is the longest distance you have ever talked to someone on your cb? growing up in Oklahoma, I remember sitting in my 78 chevy with a clear night and my 500w amp fired up next to the cobra and reached out to fairbanks alaska for a minute and then talked for almost 15 to some gal in farmington new mexico.
