Friday night I started the engine for the first time in 4 days and there was a loud humming for about 5-10 seconds and then it went off. The dashboard lit up and so got p2440 and p1441.

I cleared them and drove it around a bit with no issues. Saturday morning it made the same sound and stopped after 5-10 seconds. No lights came on.

Sunday morning, today, it did the same thing. But when I started it again an hour later, it sounds fine.

I’m supposed to fly to Europe tomorrow and the airport is 3 hours away. I’m trying to decide if I should rent a car or if I should leave much earlier and chance it.

I took it out on the highway and it seems to be fine now. What are your thoughts?

It's your SAIP, Secondary Air Injection Pump going bad, either you need to replace it or do a bypass of the pump, eventually the symptoms you're having will make the engine go into a "Limp" mode and then you will have to replace the pump to be able to drive it again.

Usually what you are experiencing only happens on cold starts, that is why it starts fine a short time later without issues.

There are options for a bypass on the internet, but I would recommend buying a forum member's bypass kit.... slyfox75 .

It hard to say if it will run fine getting you to the airport or not, but chances are since this just started it will, just be prepared to have another option on getting there if it fails on the way there.

If you decide on doing the bypass here's info on the best way to contact Jeff for getting his bypass kit.

"Slyfox75 AIP/SAIS bypass kit. Bypass = $49 Stainless Blockoff Plates $28(pair) email to jeffcolemaps at gmail for more info or questions. -jeff"

Thanks for the reply!

I actually just remembered that I bought one of his kits 2 years ago just in case I would ever need it. It’s in a box in the shed so I’m off to find it.
