Love the 4R, man. Looks great. Awesome videos, too. I plan on going to Rausch Creek this summer if I can find the free time.
 
Looks like an amazing bumper, thanks for posting the detailed video review and appreciate the closeups. Great way to hookup the backup camera and I prefer your mount location for the license plate.
 
4Runner helped my pooch

I was out shoveling for several hours during Saturday and our dog Harper was playing in the snow. Somehow, someway, he tore the skin on his leg open. It was basically a hole and you could see the muscle.

The Cut:



Luckily, I didn't have to worry about getting to a vet, just finding one that was open. Thank goodness these folks were open and they patched him up just fine. Now the mutt has three stitches, a nice patch on his leg and a sweet story to tell all the neighborhood *****es (I had to).



Here is all cozy back at home. I'm grateful to have the 4Runner for situations like this; getting to a vet during a blizzard is no joke!

Later that night I drove a couple nurses home as part of a Fairfax county volunteer emergency 4x4 program. The one guy hadn't been home in 2 days where his wife and 4 kids were weathering the storm alone.

A new shift knob is basically the same as a regear right?

Continuing with the theme of dressing up the interior.

Here are some shift knobs from American Shifter. Who needs a $2.5k regear when you can add this for $25???

Added RCI skids, will get more later

Here's the RCI gas tank and A-arm skids in aluminum. These seem way more stout than the stock skids plates and I'll put them to use this upcoming weekend. I'll complete the full set later this year. My experience with RCI from ordering to installation was a breeze - great customer service.

I painted them green b/c why the hell not. It's the best they're ever going to look anyways...

I consider myself a pretty humble guy, but DAMN, if this ain't the sexiest truck I've ever seen (washed it for the first time in months, sun was just going down, couldn't resist!)







 
More wheeling...testing skids and improving skills

My wife and I, along with my brother and a friend went to Rausch Creek for the weekend:

While on a hill climb, I dropped about 3-4 inches onto the RCI aluminum gas tank skid, but it held up pretty good and I'm very impressed with the beating it took. I was able to use a 20lb dumbell as a BFH and get it close to its original form.

After I pulled it off the truck (it's supposed to be perfectly flat):


Here's another view of the front. That curve isn't supposed to be there. It was barely touching the gas tank, but just barely...

Much more room now! Good as new...ish

[MENTION=90834]joshp767[/MENTION] - I'm not sure if you remember me, but I called in late February to get the A-arm and gas tank skids from you for an upcoming trip. Well, that trip came and went and I'm very thankful I put those on! Check out my post above this - I landed on the weakest point of the RCI gas skid (the front right corner) and it still held up admirably. The only thing that would make that section stronger would be another support bracket, but there isn't anywhere to bolt it to the truck.... perhaps extending the passenger side vertical lip a little more towards the front? You can see in the last pic, that is the point where the bend starts. Regardless, I'm happy with their performance and look forward to getting the whole set.

In case you did not know, much of the water and even some of the mud at Rausch Creek is very corrosive so make sure you do a doubly good job washing all including above the skid plates and even the engine.

Will do! We always wash as much off at the self-service place immediately afterword, but I'm going to do a thorough cleaning today, inside and out. Is it the minerals in that PA soil that make it so corrosive?
 
Departure Angle Limitations of the Shrockworks Rear Bumper

While wheeling a couple weeks ago, I went above and beyond the departure angle of the shrockworks rear bumper.

Check out this video, starting at 5:10, closely watch the rear tire mounted on the swingarm. Once I break free, the tire slams into the ground, bending the carrier and pushing into my tailgate causing a dent and some chipped paint. Now, I don't really care about a dent or chipped paint, this is just a heads up for folks.

Here is a pic of how the tire carrier now sits after being bent (The tire was already set in the highest position):


Here is a pic of where the swingarm pressed into the tail gait. The bumper pressed hard into the black-metal plate. It could have been much worse


It's hard to tell in this pic, but the tire carrier is bent. Look at the light reflections. This is the ONLY part that bent, nothing on the swingarm or any tabs, just this piece.


Here's the dent into the tailgate. The dent caused the paint to chip, so I sprayed over it with some paint - I'll do a better job of that later.


In the end, pain heals, chicks dig scars and glory lasts forever....or something like that.

It's hard to tell, but to winch, I would have had to drag almost the entire weight of the 4runner across the entire gas tank skid.... The hi-lift was pretty sturdy the entire time.
