Coil life?

I have searched and read just about everything there is on coils on this board. I am close to getting back into a 4runner ( 02 sport 135K) and was wondering how long the coils last? Interested in the 99 tall coils but my lack of knowledge is quite embarrassing...

I've read post where people say 75K to 100K. (not sure where they got this from.) My '99 had 191K on it with no sag at all. I've seen others for sale with far less miles that are sagging badly.

I assume you're asking how many miles is too many for buying used springs? If so, just measure the spring height and compare it to what the height is new. That should give you a good indicator of how far along they are.

Really just depends on the springs and how they were used. A set with 150k that were used mainly on the freeway might be in better shape that a set of springs with 50k on them that were beat on trails all the time.

Good stuff. I guess my question is if there is a definitive point where the coils should be replaced. Sounds like the answer is no...all depends how hard it has been driven. I was just wondering if the one I hope to buy 135K was ready or not based on mileage.

That also depends on your circumstances. I mean, if you're trying to convince your significant other that a lift is a good idea, then most likely your coils are probably shot. Replacing them is the safest thing you can do.

There's no real mileage or age limit, when they wear out they need to be replaced, that's it. The rears seem to sag FAR more frequently than the fronts, and IMO the best fix for saggy rears is some OME 906 springs. They give you a small amount of rake (not to the point is looks obvious), they work with stock struts, and they allow you to tow or load the truck and still don't sag, while still riding nicely.
