Coilover build w/press (feeling dangerous)

I've seen a number of REALLY unsafe ways to do this - those god awful Strut Spring compressors and shop jacks (on wheels no less) included.

Anyone build a coil over using a shop press?

I mean it needs about 2 tons of force (4" at 500lb/inch) the real issue being able to make sure everything is perpendicular and stays that way, lest it shoot out and kill you?

I've used spring compressors and have had no issue but if you are not comfortable with it then you can try this method or pay someone

Thanks man....I watched that video over and over already

The candy-ass shield on the shop press probably wouldn't stop it from flying should anything go wrong but it might stop it from hurting me a little.

I'm probably just going to use the strut compressors. I got heavy duty ones and the lock pins work well...slow and steady is the game.

My friend has a spring compressor that's mounted to the wall of his shop, it works great. I use the oem brand compressor at home though and just to be extra careful, I put a ratchet strap around the two arms and spring. Then I cinch it tight enough to not interfer with the job. That gives me another layer of protection if does go. I also never use air on compressors or pullers.

Use the weight of the truck, floor jack and jack stands. Super easy, super controlled. I have used this method on many vehicles from SUVs, to pickups to cars.

Yeah, that's the method I pretty much settled on...was just wondering if anyone adapted their shop press to do it.

Now all I have to do is decide what springs to pair with my KYB struts....never ending questions.
