Should the top bushing on the strut mount be squished really tight or left tall? I see both styles being used and i got my strusts mounted and the dude tighten the bushing till it was flat.

I would say squish to about half its height. It shouldn't be flat, otherwise there's no point for a rubber bushing. You might as well replace it with several metal washers.
