Cold Air Intake 4th. Gen. V-8

I am having difficulty understanding the difference between:

1) Volant CAI, and
2) Stock 4runner box WITH an aftermarket filter, such as K&N or Trueflow.

It appears both boxes are CAI;

Does Volant utilize the factory air mass and emissions controls? Does Volant have additional air intake openings?

What's the difference, besides a cooler look?

Humm! It sounds alittle louder.....nicer and.....a hole appx. 2.7" to 3.0 Inches ( $275-$300) on your butt pocket. Seriously, I like the way it look more than the sound.

The volant utilizes a special higher flow filter as well as smother routed intake tubing with a more direct path to the intake manifold. The incoming air sees less flow restrictions and flows smoother and faster.

And so does the dirt.
I wouldn't recommend this system if the vehicle is going to be driven in extremely dusty conditions frequently, no. But let's be real here, a very small percentage of vehicles see conditions dusty enough to fill the engine bay with dirty enough air to actually make an impact on the filtered air. Even with all of the studies done out there I think the jury is still out on the aftermarket filters, just because they flow more air doesn't mean they actually let any more particulates in than the restrictive stock filter. Surface area is an easy way to justify this.

even with a loose vaccum line from the volant and the Cotton/guaze style filter inplace, my rig showed only 12ppm silicon in my last oil analysis.

Sure, the OEM will probably filter more, but my numbers were WELL within limits for the 2uz-fe.
