Cold air intake problem?

Recently I put a KN cold air intake on my 00 runner. I've noticed though since its been on that if accelerate hard that my truck seems to backfire (what it sounds like to me), and it almost seems to lose power for a split second when it backfires. Has anyone else had this problem?

Nope, it should just roar at certain throttle positions.

while i dont like the K&N system it should not be doing this... something is going on with your MAFS -mass airflow sensor... its getting a bad reading it sounds like... have you checked the codes or do you have a check engine light that comes on? did you reset the computer after you installed the CAI? id start by cleaning the MAFS, and resetting the ECU -pull the EFI fuse for 10-15min and then go from there. -the K&N systems have been known to dirty or contaminate MAFS with their oils...

I haven't had any check engine lights thrown yet and it's been on for about a month. I did not reset the computer... I will try cleaning the MAFS and pull the ECU fuse to see if that helps. If anything this is a good place to start. Hopefully it will fix it, if not its going back to KN!

Which is the reason I run dry filters on any vehicle with a MAF. Seen it many time when a customer comes into the shop with certain running issues after recently installing an oiled filter. Sometimes people over oil the filter too.
