Cold air intake

Can anyone tell me if the cold air intake makes your engine louder along with more horsepower?

you will notice more sound coming from your engine bay while your in the truck, how much will may be determined by what system you buy. like a k&n system with a metal pipe is gonna be loud the plastic pipe version has a deeper sound to it, and if you decide to go with a trd or afe you'll notice the engine has more of a growl to it and if you want it louder youyou can remove the lid which may or may not effect power. my vote is for trd or afe ive heard a few of the k&n systems and it you seems to get the sound of the injectors ticking gives it a real crappy sound at idle.

I get better high end power and it is definitely louder. IT creates a loud audible hum under heavy/moderate acceleration (I even have the plastic pipe!). I personally enjoy the sound, it makes the truck sound very aggressive and it goes away while cruising or driving normally. I get better HP and better gas mileage with conservative driving. A CAI will let you engine breaaatthhhhh.

I have an '07 Sport v6 and put the K&N CAI (w/ plastic tube) on a few months ago and love it! You can't hear any difference until you put your foot down, and then it really sounds like the T4R has some balls. I would definitely recommend!

Plus it is an easy mod to do and better mileage and power!

cparise: I too have the Borla dual exhaust, so it definitely enhances the already low rumble the borla gives off? and do you hear it more from the engine or the pipes?

when your crusin you hear the exhaust when you step on it you hear the CAI.

when you accelerate the CAI drowns out the exhaust, the engine is really loud. I have a short throw k&n CAI on my 07 Camry SE with the TRD exhaust and when you get on it the CAI isnt as loud as the 4RUNNER maybe because the Runner is a V8 and Camry is V6.

well i unforunately have a V6 because the dealership told me that was the only way i could get the XSP package.

Thai explains it pretty good too. I was thinking about K&N but decided to stick to OEM Toyota.

Any good pointers on a closed-box CAI? Ordered wrong Volant intake (got 3.4L but need 4.0L) - do they make one for the 4.0L? Is the aFe intake nice? I see they offer a closed-box option.

no vlonat doesnt make one for the 4runer a few of us have alled them about it and ive personally even put people in contact with them o they could mock it up and put it into production but they have obviously dropped the ball so f*ck em... i would say the afe or trd would be the one to get both around the same price and very similar. hopes this helps
