With 3rd gens it's just much cheaper to mod the airbox to accept a deckplate (called the deckplate mod) and you get the same 7-8whp a $200+ CAI would give you. The deckplate allows you to close up the airbox if you off-road and encounter a situation where water might splash up toward the intake. I've had the "hole in the airbox) for over tow years and never had any problems.

I also recommend the True flow filter with this mod.

I also put a section of screendoor material clamped aroud the part of the deckplate that intrudes into the airbox to keep large debris from the filter (leaves, small rocks, mice).

Here is the intake silencer removal mod also......

any idea if i cut the hole in the side of the intake box, and used flex hosing and roughted it to the underside of the scoop on the hood to make a actual working hood scoop?

The hood scoop mods have been discussed and a few silly tries at converting the scoop to actually work have proved fuitless.

For the work involved it just won't be worth it to mess with the scoop.
